Color That Feels Like Joy
Contemporary watercolor inspired by landscape, florals, and the beauty of everyday moments.
One-of-a-kind paintings created through layered linework and luminous washes.
Deborah Rees creates watercolor paintings that celebrate color, movement, and a sense of place. Her work brings together expressive florals and landscapes, where bold linework meets layered washes of color. Each painting is both structured and spontaneous—inviting the viewer to experience something familiar in a new and vibrant way.At the heart of her work is a simple intention:to create art that lifts the spirit and brings a sense of joy into everyday spaces.
Her Story
Deborah’s creative path began early, shaped by a childhood filled with making and observation. Though she built a successful career as a CPA, art remained a constant thread—quiet, steady, and always present. When she returned to painting, it wasn’t a beginning. It was a return to something essential. Her process is intuitive yet grounded. She begins with expressive linework, then builds layers of transparent watercolor—allowing each piece to evolve naturally while maintaining a strong sense of composition and form.

Living With the Work
Deborah’s paintings are created to bring a sense of warmth, energy, and balance into a space.
Collectors are drawn to her work for the feeling it brings into a room—something both vibrant and grounding.
Her paintings are often placed in areas meant for pause—bedrooms, reading corners, and entryways—where they can be experienced slowly. The layered transparency of watercolor allows the work to shift throughout the day as light changes, creating a quiet sense of movement within the home.
Each piece is one of a kind, created to hold both presence and softness.

Where the Work Lives
Deborah exhibits her work in Arizona and Colorado and continues to expand her presence through juried shows and gallery opportunities.
Her paintings are held in private collections and resonate with collectors who are drawn to expressive, emotionally grounded abstraction.
Each piece is created with the intention that it will live beyond the studio—becoming part of a home, a moment, and a story that continues to evolve over time.
